An orange orb in Seine-Saint-Denis, France

On February 9, 1981, at around 2:45 p.m., a witness observed in the sky a fireball of orange color followed by a trail of gray smoke. This sphere descended slowly and silently. It disappeared into the landscape. Another ball of the same type then appeared. During the investigation, it turned out that on February 9 at around 2:30 p.m., the firefighters at the airport located not far from there had launched distress flares with parachutes. These flares rise vertically to an altitude of about 100 to 200 meters, stay lit for one minute before falling gently and going out. The witness probably saw these distress flares.
