An open record of things people cannot explain

Photographed in Drme, France

Two witnesses observe on 09/07/2010 in the sky around 10:00 PM a white luminous oval-shaped ball flying at rapid speed on a straight trajectory. No noise is heard: the object disappears toward the North. The person who testified took a photograph and will contact the local press. Various hypotheses were considered for this moderately strange phenomenon of a luminous spot moving in a straight line from South to North. A bolide would have been much faster, and would have produced a trail; the ISS station, present that evening in the French sky, was not moving in that direction, and appears as a very bright point, not as a "plate." The passage of a metallic festive balloon flying at the mercy of the wind (10 to 20 km/h), still exposed to the sun because higher up (sunset at 9:20 PM) could explain this observation, but its apparent speed would have been slower (unless much stronger high-altitude winds). Given this uncertainty, GEIPAN classifies this case "C," a moderately strange case of average consistency.
