It is a deep, low pitched, bassy sound between a hum and a rumble. There seems to be a slow, steady pulse to it. It reminds me of an engine idling off in the distance. I would swear it's coming from outside except I've only heard it while indoors. My experience seems to be similar to many other people's. I started hearing the sound a month ago shortly after moving into my house, but dismissed at as being from a snow plow somewhere as it was snowing a lot those days. Then one night a week ago it was loud enough that I thought maybe I left my car running outside. Or that a neighbor was playing music. Went outside to investigate and the noise stopped. Turned off my heater boiler. Turned off the power in the house after unplugging a bunch of things. It seemed to actually get louder, but I was still convinced it must be something in my house. But then I heard it a couple nights ago at my parent's house 10 miles away. I lived there for a year prior to moving to this house and had never noticed it. That's when I turned to the internet and found out about the hum. Even knowing I'm not alone, and that others have been experiencing this far longer than I have, it's a little scary to be honest. I hope your efforts can help us all at least get some answers.
What they reported
First noticed: 2019
Pitch: 50 hertz, triangle
Loudest: During the night
Where: Indoors
Symptoms: Insomnia, Sense of vibration, Anxiety
Changes with weather: I can't hear it if it's windy or raining, but I think it's because the sound blocks it? It seems louder when it snows however.
