Like a really large, loud refrigerator running in the background. Its everywhere, but theres no apparent source. I only hear this a few times per year. Also, when I hear it, the house makes way, way more settling sounds than normal. Like, cracking sounds in the floors, walls, ceiling, roof.

It is a very low but strong sound like an diesel engine. I can hear it in my house at day time and at night.Earplugs make it worse at it makes the other sounds dissapear in the environment.
