An account in Pyr�n�es-Atlantiques, France

On July 12, 2017, a witness located at Place Clémenceau in Pau attends a show on the occasion of the passage of the Tour de France. Their attention is drawn by other people looking toward the cloudy sky and pointing in a direction. The witness then observes several flat, luminous shapes that pass over the roof of the chamber of commerce before being lost from sight. The witness moves to Boulevard des Pyrénées and will observe in the sky the movements of other luminous points (straight-line trajectory and change of direction). No noise is heard. The witness takes several photos of the UAP and takes daytime photos to situate their observation. Only one testimony is collected. An observation in the sky on an evening of a show (Tour de France celebration) in the middle of the city could hardly be strange without being reported by other people, especially since there were other people observing the phenomenon as the witness indicates. Given the context, the most likely explanation is that the festive and crowded evening gave rise to releases of novelty balloons into the sky. GEIPAN will not commit more investigation resources without further testimony of strangeness. GEIPAN classifies the case as B: probable observation of novelty balloons.
