On August 22, 2017 at 4:30 in the morning, a witness observes from the first floor of his home a fixed luminous phenomenon in the sky toward the East. The witness takes photos and videos (tablet and camcorder) during the half hour of observation. Only one testimony is collected. Thanks to a video taken by the witness outside at dawn showing landscape elements, we can deduce that the UAP is at approximately azimuth 84° at 6:08 on 22/08/2017; a comparison with Stellarium at the same time shows the presence of Venus at azimuth 84° and an apparent magnitude of -4. Venus is the third brightest natural object in the sky (after the sun and the moon). Magnifying an image of a planet or star is impossible with this type of equipment because of defocusing, that is, the focus cannot be made on such a distant object; a bright point filmed with the zoom causes optical and electronic artifacts; the observed shape, which varies according to movements, is due to the diaphragm; a defect in it may be the cause of the shape seen in all the zoomed videos (a circle with a point at the bottom, see investigation elements). Moreover, the witness describes the UAP as a big star "without change" in trajectory and "not much movement." This is a case where the strangeness perceived by the witness results mainly from what he sees in the device. Had he only looked with his eyes, he might not have made a report. GEIPAN classifies this case as A, as a certain observation of Venus.
