On Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:05 PM, a couple in a garden observes the sky and sees appear, to the south-southwest above a nearby building, 4 luminous points flying silently in formation. The UAPs converge toward the same point, have a vertical upward movement, then disappear. The observation is very short and only one testimony is collected. The description of the UAP does not allow retaining one of the considered explanations with sufficient probability (see the investigation report). It could suggest a light display such as a laser, or a flight of insects naturally illuminated (fireflies) or artificially (city lights). However, the sky was perfectly clear, which does not fit with the hypothesis of a light display such as a laser. The hypothesis of a flight of insects fits poorly with the disappearance of the UAP. The short duration of the observation (2 or 3 seconds) could also suggest a meteor, but the grouping of the luminous points among themselves and the absence of a luminous trail fit poorly with this hypothesis. A meteor tends rather to fragment, and not to assemble. The case has a certain strangeness, but moderate, because the considered explanations can neither be retained with a probability greater than 50%, nor be completely rejected. It is noted that the observation duration is very short (2 or 3 seconds) and that the testimony lacks precision (perhaps due to the short duration combined with the probable great distance of the UAPs), particularly regarding the angular size of the UAP. Finally, the testimony is unique, while there was another witness (the witness's girlfriend) who only "confirmed" the observation (without giving testimony) and who is described by the main witness as "less intrigued than him"; and other friend witnesses were also there to look at the sky but were not looking in that direction. The lack of information and cross-checking does not allow validating the level of strangeness of the observation. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as C: lack of reliable information.
