An account in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France

Recent testimony (14/01/2015) of an old observation. On 3 February 2012 at 6:04 pm, a witness observes in the sky a luminous phenomenon, oblong in shape, slowly and silently following a straight trajectory. The object disappears after a few minutes. The observation lasts 2 minutes, during which the witness took the time to take photos. No other testimony was collected. The witness observes to the North/North-West a very luminous yellow oblong shape moving slowly in a straight line. The sun has been set for about 30 minutes. This phenomenon corresponds very well to a condensation trail from a distant aircraft (> 50 km) lit by the setting sun. A clear sky is all that is needed to observe this type of phenomenon within half an hour after sunset (or before sunrise). See an explanation of "strange aircraft trails" on page 3 of the news on the website www.cnes-geipan.fr. GEIPAN classifies this case as B: probable observation of an aircraft trail.
