An account in Essonne, France

Observation around 11:20 PM, by a group of witnesses, of 5 to 7 lights silently flying over a forest then gaining altitude. The objects make a loop before disappearing. This observation case is fairly typical of observations of Thai lantern releases. The red color of the envelope, the movement in a group, the upward movement and/or movement with the wind (north wind that evening: weather), the disappearance (extinguishing) after a few minutes, the day and time (Friday evening) of the observation, are all clues in favor of this hypothesis. The movement toward the south (Grigny, Evry) is consistent with the north wind recorded at that time at Orly. The lanterns probably flew over the Seine, and experienced some turbulence at that moment. GEIPAN classifies this case "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns.
