A triangle shape in Seine-et-Marne, France

On December 10, 2013 between 10:06 PM and 10:13 PM, a motorist observed "3 large orange lights forming a triangle, above a small forest." He observed "between these 3 lights, a dark mass." The lights went out one after another, and the witness described that "the UFO was also shrinking." Another motorist was called as a witness, but only one testimony was collected. The observation of orange lights for a few minutes clearly evokes Thai lanterns. The fact that the witness saw a dark object between the lights is a common illusion of visual perception (Gestalt theory). It will be noted that the witness saw this black shape disappear as the lights went out: this confirms this perceptual illusion. GEIPAN made inquiries with the gendarmerie, the town hall, and the Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte, to possibly identify the people responsible for this lantern release; but no event was listed that evening in the vicinity. It will be noted that the lights were located above a large private park; GEIPAN did not seek out the owners of this park; but the release must have taken place further east. The wind was blowing very lightly from the east (see Meteociel data), which meant the witness had the wind at his back and saw the objects, almost stationary, moving slightly away. Although lantern releases are fairly rare on weekdays, and GEIPAN did not find who was responsible for this release, the witnesses' account remains consistent with this hypothesis. GEIPAN classifies this case as "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns. The witness did not approve this hypothesis.
