An account in Haute-Savoie, France

On May 13, 2011 at around 11:30 PM, a witness observed from the courtyard of their home a white luminous point in the sky that intrigued them. During the observation, which lasted less than three minutes, the witness noted the object moving to the northwest without any sound being heard. No other testimony was received about this phenomenon. The witness saw a very bright point, apparently stationary for a few seconds, which then moved while shrinking over a few seconds. A possible cause could be an airplane that, heading toward the witness, appears stationary; its forward lights are then in the direction of the witness, who perceives maximum brightness. The airplane would then have changed course, the beam of the light moving away from the witness's direction, who perceives it less and less; seen from the witness, the point moves laterally until it goes out when the airplane's axis is too far from the airplane-witness line. Given the relatively low strangeness of the phenomenon, GEIPAN did not conduct research to identify which airplane it might have been. As a result, this case remains classified as "C" lack of information.
