Voices in Lot, France

On May 1, 2008 at 10:15 PM, a young teenager outside his home heard "shrill" voices and words that were "unknown" to him before seeing in front of him an "unidentified object suspended in the air five meters above the ground." The witness describes the object as "dark colored," "pyramidal" in shape, large in size, and topped with a large beam of light. Different colors were also seen. The object remained static. The witness thinks he stayed in front of this sight for maybe 15 or 20 minutes. He was then blinded by a "big flash" and when he opened his eyes again the object had disappeared. The witness then felt severe headaches that went away when his brother arrived. Another witness reported to the gendarmerie that the same evening, in the same area, between 9 PM and 10 PM, his dog had barked abnormally when usually it only barks in the presence of visitors. This observation has a high degree of strangeness since it is a close observation of an absolutely unknown phenomenon, combined with hearing completely unknown sounds. The witness and his relatives made a statement to the gendarmerie. The gendarmes conducted a completely serious investigation and found no traces on the ground, nor any confirmation of aircraft flights in the area at that time. GEIPAN contacted the witness by phone in 2011 to find out if the witness had learned anything new about his experience, or if it had happened again; but nothing new on these subjects. This observation report has none of the characteristics of a hoax. GEIPAN searched the local press to see if there had been other similar accounts in the region at that time. GEIPAN consulted a doctor who mentioned that, "in ophthalmologic-type migraines, visual phenomena (scintillating points, geometric shapes) precede violent headaches, which seems to be the case for this young man. The attack occurs suddenly, without initiating factors. It can be impressive and highly anxiety-provoking." "The age and sex are consistent with this diagnosis." This hypothesis cannot be confirmed, but must be considered. As in all cases of very strange observations by a single witness, it is very difficult to confirm the reality of the observed phenomenon, even if the witness is judged sincere. Because the account contains certain elements characteristic of a transient hallucination, GEIPAN classifies this case as "C" due to lack of concrete elements and cross-checks.
