A booming sort of tone, manifesting at various volumes, usually pulsing. At its loudest and most continuous, it resembles a car engine running with the choke out. To clarify an earlier answer, the hum is ONLY in my right ear. It's the ear I had otitis media in as a child, which our doctor pretended wasn't there. It can be triggered by temperature changes, disturbance of the right pinna, loud noises and positioning of my head. I think it is due to a dysfunction in my right ear which the doctors want to avoid attempting to treat.
