Low droning sound. From a scientific perspective, mine clearly must be an internal ‘perceived’ hum of sorts. I’ve used an external microphone with an FFT plot / spectrograph and it simply doesn’t pick up what I hear. Whilst in the middle of that process I’ll then hear a car approaching far off in the distance and it picks up those sub-100Hz frequencies with no problem! I do still wonder about ototoxicity as a culprit. I was a smoker for many years which certainly wouldn’t have helped.
What they reported
First noticed: 2016
Pitch: 69Hz
Loudest: During the night
Where: Indoors
Symptoms: Ear discomfort (pain, fullness, throbbing), Sense of vibration, Anxiety
Changes with weather: No, other than when it’s rainy or windy then the respective increase in ambient sound tends to drown out the hum.
What stood out: a low hum
