On July 2 and 4, 2008, between 10:15 PM and 10:45 PM, several witnesses in the Apt region in Vaucluse observed unusual movements of luminous phenomena. Glows moved in formation, appearing or disappearing for 20 minutes. No noise was heard during the observations. One witness filmed the phenomenon on July 4, another took photographs. The investigation established that these people witnessed a night flight of the Patrouille de France on exercise in the sky over Apt on the evenings of July 2 and 4, between St Saturnin les Avignons and Fontaine de Vaucluse. The times of the testimonies are consistent with the flight times (on July 2, for a rehearsal of a ceremony that took place on July 4). The Patrouille de France aircraft are Alphajets equipped with a light in the nose of the aircraft, which is turned on during flight presentations, so that the aircraft can be seen clearly.
