Pilot witness in Gard, France
On October 14, 2015, at around 1:25 a.m., a witness was awakened by a deafening noise outside and observed through the bathroom window the passage of a white luminous sphere, describing two large circles while gradually moving away. No other testimony was collected.
GEIPAN asked the military air traffic control to verify the air traffic present in the area at that time. The radar track (attached) shows an aircraft making circles north of Nîmes. "The track whose trajectory is concentric north of Nîmes between 11:14 p.m. and 11:22 p.m. is that of a military aircraft flying at flight level 105 (about 3000 m) and needing to perform this maneuver for operational reasons before continuing its flight."
The witness, blinded by the aircraft's searchlights, described only a glowing ball: he could not distinguish the shape of the fuselage and wings, which are generally dark-colored on military aircraft.
