An account in Vienne, France

On April 5, 2015, between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM, a motorist saw in the sky an intense, fixed light of elongated shape. He stopped several times along the way to observe the luminous phenomenon in the clear sky. This long observation of a very bright point in the sky, which seems to follow the observer but always remains positioned to the West at the same elevation, is typical of observing a celestial body. The planet Venus was particularly bright those days, and exactly in the direction indicated by the witness. The latter, contacted by GEIPAN, checked a few days later that Venus was indeed present in that direction of the sky. The elongated shape, described by the witness in his first observation, was not observed again during the check on Venus a few days later: to explain this shape, one can think of visual fatigue on the part of the witness or a particular atmospheric effect that would have distorted the point-like image of the planet. GEIPAN classifies this case as "A": observation of the planet Venus.
