An account in Hautes-Pyrnes, France

On October 25, 2013 at 8:00 PM, two people noticed the presence in the sky of a bright white fixed point in the sky. In the southwest direction at the time of observation, the planet Venus was present, particularly bright at that time (magnitude -5, its maximum), combined with a very transparent sky (visibility 35 km) despite clouds (see Meteociel data). This created exceptional conditions that made the observation of this planet remarkable. A cloud passage then hid the planet from the witnesses. GEIPAN classifies this case "A": observation of Venus. Note: The witness indicates a height above the horizon of 45°, while the photo shows a much lower elevation, consistent with the 8°30' of the actual elevation of the celestial body.
