An account in Lozre, France

On September 21, 2014, around 9 p.m., a motorist and their passengers were intrigued by a luminous phenomenon of unknown nature in the sky. Only one testimony was collected. Given the objective elements collected (see investigation report), namely on one hand: - the color, the regular blinking, and the immobility identical to the characteristics of the regulatory nighttime lighting of wind turbines. - the excellent visibility allowing their observation at a significant distance. - the readings and measurements of azimuths and elevation profiles allowing the visibility of wind turbine lights from the witnesses' successive positions. - the low angular height. - the illusion of movement accentuated by the lack of reference points preventing a correct evaluation of the azimuths by the witness and on the other hand: - the Calsky reading confirming the existence of a powerful reflection of magnitude -7.0 on an Iridium satellite, visible from the witnesses' position 1, around the time of the observation - the rapid disappearance, consistent with the short visibility of flares, GEIPAN concludes that the case involves, firstly, the simultaneous and concomitant observation toward the West of the nighttime lighting of a first group of wind turbines and a flare produced by an Iridium satellite, then secondly, toward the Southwest, of the nighttime lighting of a second group of wind turbines. This case is classified as "A" as a certain observation of the nighttime lighting of two distinct groups of wind turbines and an Iridium flare.
