On October 2, 2013, two teenagers observe around 10 p.m. the fall of a round luminous object with green trails in the direction of the town of Rantswiller. This case was handled by the gendarmerie of Sierentz (68), which collected the essential elements with precision and conducted an exemplary investigation with the competent services. Beyond these elements, we can add that the database www.boam.fr indicates a capture of a fireball observed to the southwest by a camera located in Chaligny (54) near Nancy that day at 9:57 p.m. We also note (see attached document) that several other large fireballs were observed that night. The event was noticed by several observers in the Paris region who testify on the site "Ciel des hommes" meteorite Paris. There is some dispersion in the testimonies regarding the time of the phenomenon, from "around 10 p.m." to 10:15 p.m. The witness from Walbach indicated "around 10:15 p.m.", but he called his godmother at 10:03 p.m., just after the observation: this precise indication, pertinently collected by the gendarmes, makes it possible to correlate with certainty this observation with the fireball recorded on the Chaligny camera at 9:57 p.m. The GEIPAN classifies this case "A": certain observation of a fireball caused by the re-entry into the atmosphere of a meteoroid (natural meteorite).
