An account in C�tes-d'Armor, France

On October 23, 2013 at 7:30 in the morning, a witness is surprised by the sight of about ten luminous points moving silently in the sky, in three successive waves. He completely rules out the possibility that they could be Thai lanterns, fighter jets, or any reflection of a light. No other testimony was collected. The probable explanation is that of a group of migratory birds. At this time of year, many birds migrate from North to South using the main migration corridors. One of these corridors passes to the East of Callac. As a general rule, migratory birds fly between 100m and 400m in altitude. However, in headwind conditions, which is the case here, the birds lower their flight altitude, which makes them more visible at dusk or dawn. In particular, Brent Geese migrate at this period, from the North to the Gulf of Morbihan. Their plumage is mainly brown, black, and white. At night, lit by the Moon, only the white part remains visible, and the yellowish color mentioned by the witness corresponds to the color of the light reflected by the Moon. The wings, dark, are not visible in the darkness. The observation is therefore not very strange. The only slight strangeness comes from the last light, more intense than the others (but it is noted that this point was not present at the time of the observation and the questionnaire and was mentioned by the witness during the investigation, which may also result from a false memory phenomenon 3 years later). This observation is of medium consistency at the start (a single witness, no photos or videos) and reinforced by a cognitive interview. The GEIPAN therefore classifies the case as B, probable observation of birds (several groups of Brent Geese or other birds in migration).
