An account in Aveyron, France
On June 6, 2013 at 10:10 PM, a motorist's attention was drawn to two lights in the sky that seemed stationary. Continuing on his way, he stopped and then observed two distinct shapes. No particular noise was noticed during the observation and the disappearance of the lights toward the NNW. Two photographs were taken by the witness with a mobile phone. No other testimony was collected. An investigation indicates that the Sun was 8° below the horizon (the observation took place about 30 minutes after sunset). To the East, the star VEGA is noted, very bright (Azimuth = 65°, Height = 32°), and according to Meteociel and the reading at Souillac: the sky was clear, and the wind nearly zero. For this observation, GEIPAN considered several hypotheses, such as airplanes lit by the sun, but 30 minutes after sunset, airplanes at 10,000 m altitude are no longer lit by the sun, as well as the observation of stars or planets seen through a veil of clouds, but no pairs of stars matching the observation are found. The passage of luminous balloons or Thai lanterns remains possible although unlikely on a weekday, and the witness's detailed description does not match well with the usual accounts of Thai lanterns. This case, of low strangeness, of distant lights seeming to move slightly, remains unexplained for lack of information or other reported testimonies: the case is classified C. The low strangeness of the case does not justify further investigation.
