An account in Sarthe, France

On May 30, 2012, starting at 9:00 PM, a witness observes, from his balcony, a dark and stationary object at low altitude. The object emits flashing lights irregularly. The object stays in the same place until the witness goes to bed, who takes the time to make a video with his cell phone. Given the objective elements collected, namely: - weather favorable for the use of a tethered balloon: no wind to light wind. - lighting markers in compliance with regulations for the use of tethered aircraft. - terrain suitable for the use of a tethered aircraft, in the azimuth where the object is visible. We can conclude that the observed object is most likely a tethered balloon. This testimony is of good consistency because of the video, but essential data is missing (azimuth, size and height estimates), which could however be partially reconstructed thanks to the video. The observation is not very strange because it involves an object with ultimately ordinary behavior. This case is classified as "B" as a probable observation of a tethered balloon.
