An account in Eure, France

On October 23, 2011 at around 4:45 a.m., a female driver and her passenger were intrigued by the presence in the sky at low altitude of a luminous phenomenon of varied colors (blue, red) and seen with particular shapes. This phenomenon remained static and no noise was heard during the observation, which lasted 45 minutes. Then the witness decided to continue on her way. Only one testimony was collected on this phenomenon. The strangeness of the observed phenomenon, static for more than 30 minutes, is low; it is the witness's description (triangles, luminous threads) that makes it strange. The consistency of the case is low since unfortunately only one witness was willing to contact us. Because the witness first recognizes a star, then sees details in it after observing it carefully, GEIPAN favors this star hypothesis: Sirius low on the horizon is a good candidate; it is often the subject of this type of misidentification under these observation conditions, which induce strong scintillation (multiple changing colors). However, a notable positional discrepancy is noted between Sirius and the observation direction recorded by the investigator afterward, but 18 months later. This case is classified as B: probable astronomical observation of Sirius.
