A witness reports an observation made on Sunday, August 29, 2010, around 12:20 a.m. From the first floor of his home, he observes about thirty "shuttles" flying below the cloud layer. All move slowly from the horizon and pass overhead before disappearing, hidden by the urban landscape. A video is taken with a cell phone. Unfortunately, the video disappoints the witness greatly, as it does not accurately capture his observation. No particular noise was heard during the observation, except for a slight rumbling in the distance, and only at times. Only one testimony is collected by the gendarmerie (combining Police Report 703 with the questionnaire and Police Report 1073 with supplementary witness documentation) and by GEIPAN. The video sent by the witness is very similar to the many similar videos received at GEIPAN illustrating cases of observations of Thai lanterns. The characteristics of the observation also match: duration, apparent speed, direction of movement consistent with the local wind. The drawing made by the witness is quite surprising with regard to this hypothesis; it is only a very free interpretation of a spectacle consisting solely of a set of luminous points. A private investigator called directly by the witness conducted an on-site investigation and concludes: "This is, without any possible dispute, a release of Thai lanterns carried out during a wedding celebration organized in the banquet hall of Tenteling. The newlyweds told me they launched 60 lanterns. Everything confirms the reality of this release." GEIPAN classifies this case "A": observation of Thai lanterns released on the occasion of a wedding.
