An account in Bouches-du-Rh�ne, France

Two witnesses report having seen, on July 31, 1994 at around 1:15 a.m., just above the hills east of Marseille, a red half-sphere twice the size of the moon, turning yellow as it shrank. The witnesses note the disappearance of the phenomenon in a thin streak of light. The witnesses cannot explain what they saw. This case was classified "C" for lack of information. In July 2012 a reconstruction at the same location and at the same time was to be carried out as part of a possible saros cycle (see explanations in the investigation report). After a fully conclusive reconstruction 18 years later, GEIPAN classifies this case "A": misidentification with the Moon at its rising.
