An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France

On November 2, 1971, at around 7:10 PM and 7:40 PM, the witness (then aged 6 and a half) was returning to his parents' home after sports training. He was alerted by a friend to the presence of an object in the sky. Intrigued, the witness observed a circular object shaped like a "saucer" with two rows of portholes. This object seemed to rotate on itself while moving at low altitude without making any noise. The object was directly above the street the witness had to take to get home. But when he reached an intersection, the child took his eyes off the UAP: the UAP continued on its way in a straight line. When he got home, unfortunately the child would not see the object in the sky again. Only one testimony was collected (see the investigation report). The hypothesis of a lost balloon would largely fit (straight-line trajectory, silence, low altitude, duration of observation...) but cannot be validated because the searches did not find a balloon with the characteristics described by the witness (portholes, color, size...). The color change noted at the end of the observation is also a factor weakening this hypothesis. The testimony, rich in detail, is surprising given the young age of the witness. Only one of the two known witnesses testified to GEIPAN and was heard. The consistency here is tainted by the long delay after the observation (45 years), which may alter the memory, and also by the recording of only one of the two witnesses. The consistency is too weak to validate the strange and unexplained nature of the observation. For example, it is not possible to verify certain important information, and it is not possible to rule out with strong evidence the possibility of a lost child's balloon. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as C: late testimony unusable due to lack of reliable information.
