An account in Calvados, France
On April 13, 1983, between 10:45 p.m. and 11:05 p.m., two motorists saw a very bright ball in the sky at very high altitude. It was the size of a handball, yellowish-green in color, with variable brightness. Observed through binoculars, the ball seemed to have rapid vertical movements but never moved more than 40 to 50 cm from its initial position, to which it always returned. When the brightness became unbearable, the witnesses stopped observing. Examination of the sky chart for the day of the observation makes it possible to identify Venus fairly low on the horizon (less than 5 degrees) in the 300-degree direction, which matches the angle of the observation. The witnesses were therefore probably impressed by the significant brightness of the planet Venus.
This re-examination sometimes results in a change of classification. This observation case, previously classified D and named SAINT-VALLIER (26) 1980, is part of a set of cases recently re-e…
