An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Yvelines, France

GEIPAN continues to publish all of its archives on its public website www.geipan.fr. Among its publications are old cases that were classified at the time as type "C" cases and that are now being re-examined, with the sole aim of being more relevant in the conclusions. Thanks to new technical means (software) and the investigation experience acquired over all these recent years, this re-examination sometimes leads to new remarks or even a change of classification explained in an investigation note. This observation case is one of the cases previously classified as "C." On December 25, 1980, between 10:30 PM and 10:45 PM, witnesses saw in the sky a set of bluish luminous points with trails moving along a south-north axis. The observation lasted 15 seconds. This case is fairly consistent (three witnesses, of whom only two were interviewed), and the description of the observed UAP is fairly precise. The sincerity and credibility of the witnesses have never been called into question. The described phenomenon presents many common characteristics (observation duration, shape, size, color, trajectory) with an artificial atmospheric reentry. Moreover, this observation case falls within a mass observation of an artificial atmospheric reentry (namely that of Cosmos 749 rocket), which occurred in the indicated time slot and along the indicated trajectory. It is not the witnesses' visual perception that is in question, but the interpretation that the witnesses make of their observation through their feeling (astonishment). In GEIPAN's current classification, this case of low strangeness is classified as UAP A, an observation linked to a misidentification with the atmospheric reentry of Cosmos 749 rocket.
