You wish to know whether it is the only time I have heard anything of the kind. Yes, it is the only time. Mrs. Adams writes for her husband, on January 19th, 1886 : — In reply to your letter of November 17th, in which you ask a few more questions : First.- — -You ask my husband whether he made a note of it. He did not ; but he always remembered the date, for he has a very good memory. Secondly. — It is impossible to find any of the men who were with him at the time. Some are dead. The others, I do not know where they are.

Witnesses signed their statements and were often corroborated by others, whose statements appear as their own accounts.
