An account in Haute-Corse, France

On March 3, 1980, starting at 8:45 PM and for half an hour, witnesses saw above the ridges a glowing ball shaped like a plate. According to the witnesses, this object was between 100 and 200 meters from the vehicle. When the car stopped, the witnesses heard no noise and smelled no particular odor. Over an approximate distance of 12 kilometers, these people had the impression that the object was following them because it seemed to stop or start again at the same time as their vehicle. The object suddenly disappeared, and another luminous phenomenon, this time red and cone-shaped, appeared. As soon as they arrived home, the witnesses went to the gendarmerie to make a statement. No other witness or trace of the phenomenon was found during the investigation. Based on the direction of the route taken by the witnesses between Favello and Corte, and taking into account the very winding road between these two places, it is probable that these people made an astronomical observation of Venus. Particularly visible at this time of year (magnitude -4.10) and very low on the horizon, this celestial body would have appeared and disappeared following the ridge line.
