An open record of things people cannot explain

Loire-Atlantique, France · 1980-01-12 · from the GEIPAN archive

An account in Loire-Atlantique, France

Between January 10 and January 16, 1980, many people, including police officers, saw a luminous object in the sky. It was circular in shape, bright, and twinkling. It moved slowly from east to west. Photographs of the object were taken. Little by little, the object lost its brightness, turned orange, and disappeared. All these people had made an astronomical observation of Venus, which was particularly visible at that time of year (magnitude -3.83 on 12/01/1980 at 7:04 PM, and disappearing into the ocean at 8:30 PM).
