An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Autre, France

On March 20, 1959 at about 8:15 PM, two witnesses in Timbuktu (Mali) observe a fixed orange luminous point low on the horizon. The fixed point seems to move fairly slowly from the NE to the SW without a trail. The point moves away and decreases in size and intensity before disappearing completely. Only one testimony is collected. An astronomical check shows no celestial body in the indicated direction. Moreover, the object is in apparent motion. The phenomenon as described could correspond to a distant airplane seen head-on with its landing light on. GEIPAN classifies this case as C due to lack of information and cross-checking.
