An account in Val-de-Marne, France

In the night of September 13 to 14, 2014, between midnight and 12:30 a.m., several round, yellow, luminous points were observed in the sky over the Val de Marne (94), between the towns of Champigny-sur-Marne (94) and Créteil (94). Coming from the northeast, these objects traveled in a linear manner, slowly and without noise, in successive waves. Their number is estimated at about forty points. Two eyewitness accounts of the observation were collected. This observation case is remarkable for several aspects: - On the one hand, since the witnesses reported the case to the Air Transport Gendarmerie, which was particularly attentive at that time to small objects flying at low altitude (drones in particular), this observation case was handled directly by that agency with special care. - The investigation fully established the origin of the phenomenon: 35 Thai lanterns released to celebrate a civil partnership (PACS). - This lantern release had been the subject of a request for authorization to the prefecture, and the authorization was granted. - GEIPAN, in view of the gendarmerie investigation, therefore classifies this perfectly identified case in category A: observation of Thai lanterns.
