An account in Is�re, France

On August 5, 2015 at 11:10 PM, a witness is intrigued by a brilliant intense white point moving across the sky before disappearing. This testimony of observing a very bright point crossing part of the sky is very precise, both in terms of the date and the position in the sky. The trajectory of the phenomenon corresponds exactly to that of the International Space Station (ISS), which was very visible that evening. The witness only observed the end of the pass. One detail of the observation may seem contradictory with this explanation: the witness describes a few zig-zags in the trajectory of the phenomenon: this is a perceptual illusion called the autokinetic illusion or autokinesis (see the article on the perception of motion of a bright point in the sky) which applies to fixed or moving bright points. This illusion is common when observing the ISS, which is particularly bright (see the observation case CLARET (04) 22.08.2012).
