An account in Lot-et-Garonne, France
On February 9, 2015, between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM, a witness observed a "strange" star that they described as motionless, red, green, and blue. The long observation (one hour) of a fixed object in the sky, having the appearance of a star, points to a distant astronomical phenomenon. The witness indicates the direction of Clayrac (azimuth ~ 165°) or Prayssas (azimuth: 142°). On the attached sky chart, one notes the star Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, visible at azimuth 143° at 21° elevation. The appearance described by the witness: color changes of green/red/blue, vertical or horizontal oscillations, is entirely consistent with the artifacts produced by scintillation caused by the atmosphere (see: a star?) and by a visual perception illusion called the autokinetic illusion (see: the perception of movement of a point of light in the sky.) GEIPAN classifies this case "A": observation of the star Sirius.
On December 18, 2014, around 9:00 PM, two witnesses are intrigued by a luminous phenomenon in the sky. Observed while zooming with a camera, the object seems to be several colors and moves i…
