An account in Ille-et-Vilaine, France
The observation by a motorist at 11:58 PM of a flaming orange-red sphere in the sky for less than a few minutes, on a weekend night, strongly suggests a sky lantern, probably released nearby, at the end of a private party. The movement is perceived from South to North, in the opposite direction to the movement of a car traveling from North to South. This apparent movement is not compatible with the slight North wind recorded at Dinard: Météo.
It is difficult to say whether this movement, perceived as opposite to the car's movement, is real or is a perspective effect, with an object nearly stationary during the minute of observation, perceived probably much farther away than it actually was. The witness refutes this sky lantern hypothesis.
No other testimony was collected.
No atmospheric re-entry of space debris or meteoroid is listed at that time in that area (sources: aerospace and BOAM).
Given this uncertainty (real movement, and luminosity), GEIPAN classifies this case "C" due to lack of precise information (stationary witness) or cross-checking.
