An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Loire-Atlantique, France

On May 7, 2008 at 10:55 PM, a group of 6 high school students observed in the sky two luminous balls moving silently, which then seemed stationary before quickly departing again in an upward trajectory. The cartographic representation of the scene and the weather report (light easterly wind in Nantes) suggest Thai lanterns that could have been released from one of the houses at the edge of the forest to the East. It is noted, however, that the testimony is not completely consistent with this hypothesis: white and blue balls, a luminous thread, movement not entirely linear. Given the low strangeness of the case, and its age, GEIPAN did not reopen an investigation into this case. GEIPAN classifies this case as "C" due to lack of information, although the Thai lantern hypothesis remains fairly probable.
