An account in Ariège, France
On April 12, 2008 at around 10 p.m., two witnesses are intrigued by a luminous phenomenon in the sky: a glow with strong scintillation of several colors, predominantly blue, and round in shape, is stationary to the southwest in the clear sky. The witnesses have time to go get binoculars to improve their observation of this glow, which is larger and brighter than a star. The observation lasts about ten minutes in total. The sky chart for that day (see attached) indicates that the star Sirius, the brightest in the sky (magnitude -1.44), was in the sky to the southwest at that time, at 18 degrees above the horizon: when this star is visible low on the horizon, it often surprises witnesses, especially on days when the sky is very clear. It would have disappeared, hidden behind the hill. GEIPAN classifies this case "B": probable observation of the star Sirius. Because the direction of observation is not indicated very precisely, a slight doubt remains about this hypothesis.
On February 22, 2010 at 1:55 a.m., a witness observed from the garden a stationary luminous point that intrigued him. Looking at it more carefully, he saw that the light emitted by this poin…
