GEIPAN continues to publish all of its archives on its public website www.geipan.fr. Among its publications are old cases classified at the time (A, B, C, or D) that are now being re-examined, for the sole purpose of being more relevant in their conclusions. Thanks to new technical means (software) and the investigative experience gained over all these recent years, this re-examination sometimes leads to new remarks or even a change in classification. This observation case, previously classified D and named TOUSSUS LE NOBLE (78) 07.09.2001, is part of a set of cases recently re-examined. On September 7, 2001, on the football field of Villiers-Le-Bacle (91), the prefect's representative discovered three circles of scorched grass about 30 to 40 cm in size, forming an isosceles triangle of about 120 meters. The gendarmerie investigation led to the discovery of charcoal dumped in the nearby ditch and numerous vehicle tracks due to the recent occupation of the neighboring land by travelers. GEIPAN (at the time it was SEPRA) had classified the case as unexplained. GEIPAN no longer handles observation cases that do not include an aerospace phase, that is, an observation perceived by the witness as having been (at least during one phase of the observation) in the sky or in the immediate vicinity of the sky and the ground. It is in this aerospace domain that GEIPAN has the skills and tools to search for explanations (of aerospace phenomena). Ground traces are of course exploited and valuable when they are associated or associable with an aerospace observation. That is absolutely not the case here; there is no testimony of an unidentified aerospace phenomenon. Consequently, the testimony must be declared unusable by GEIPAN: classification of the case as C.
