GEIPAN continues to publish all of its archives. Among its publications are old cases that were classified at the time as type "D" cases and that are now being re-examined. The purpose of this re-examination is not to reduce or increase any particular classification category but to be more relevant in the conclusions. Thanks to new technical means (software) and the investigative experience acquired over all these recent years, this re-examination sometimes leads to new remarks or even a change in classification explained in an investigation note. This observation case is one of these re-examined cases. On June 23, 2007, a resident of BEZIERS (34) reported to the gendarmerie that his son and daughter-in-law had observed a UAP at length during the night of June 21, 1997, around midnight. While driving on the N609 from Béziers, the motorist and his passenger observed for 45 minutes a craft of flat ovoid shape; non-luminous white lights radiated from the device. Throughout the entire trip, the UAP positioned itself above the vehicle, which it seemed to follow. According to the passenger, the UAP appeared and disappeared regularly. The witnesses heard no particular noise. The UAP was about 50 meters from the ground. No other testimony was collected on this phenomenon. The investigations conducted by the gendarmerie did not make it possible to identify an aircraft that could correspond to this observation. Moreover, the two direct witnesses, residing in the Alpes de Haute Provence (04), could not be heard because they had returned to their home at the time of the investigation. Insofar as the two witnesses could not be heard, there is no direct testimony allowing the case to be re-examined. It is only reported by a third party, who saw nothing. The consistency of this case therefore proves to be very weak since it is not a direct testimony. Consequently, in GEIPAN's current classification, this case is classified as UAP C, due to lack of information (total absence of direct testimony).
