An account in France, France

In the night of September 4 to 5, 1988, around 1:15 AM, numerous witnesses spread across several departments in central France, mainly in Burgundy, observed a strong yellowish or white glow depending on the witness, oval in shape with a long reddish trail, which crossed the sky rapidly for a few seconds. The phenomenon was particularly significant in the Yonne, where many witnesses were able to observe it. Depending on their geographic position, witnesses heard more or less loudly the sound of 4 or 5 detonations at the moment the phenomenon disappeared. This detonation was particularly well perceived in the Nièvre and the Yonne, but the phenomenon was observed as far as Essonne. The phenomenon is likely a large-scale atmospheric reentry.
