Boom in France, France

On November 17, 1983, between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., witnesses located in three departments (Haute-Saône, Moselle, and Meurthe-et-Moselle) saw a luminous phenomenon crossing the sky. A round-shaped, highly colored mass moved horizontally at very high speed and without any noise. The estimated height of the object was 1,000 to 2,000 feet. Although during the few seconds of observation the witnesses did not notice any change in direction, some were able to see an explosion of the main mass into several pieces of unequal size and reddish in color. A yellow-orange trail was also visible behind the object. These people were probably witnessing the re-entry of a meteorite into the atmosphere.
