The following is my first ever experience with achieving lucidity while dreaming. This occurred only last night and was very brief. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 I awake (within my dream) face down in a green, overgrown field. Upon sitting up I realize that the field contains grass about 6 to 8 inches high in some areas, interspersed with small, purple flowers and is clearly not well-maintained. As I look about, I mutter to myself "I am dreaming" and suddenly realize that I am in fact dreaming and have attained lucidity for the first time ever. I distinctly remember lying down in my bed and closing my eyes and waking up in this field. I mutter again "I am dreaming." I look about me; off in the distance is a small she would of the type one might store gardening tools. The she would appears to have been overcome with the encroaching grass and other flora and is in a sorry state of disrepair. In an attempt to objectively test and confirm my hypothesis that I am dreaming, I study my hands (not my normal reality check, which I do not know why I failed to perform). As I focus on my hands, I notice two things: first, my wedding band on my left hand is now on my left index finger instead of my left ring finger; second, as I focus on my hand the entire world around it goes completely out of focus to the extent that my hand appears crystal clear but all around it the green of the grass and the purple of the flowers dissolve into a green and purple jumbled mess of paint-like splatterings. Next I check one of the purples flowers closest to me. I bend down with the flower about an inch from the tip of my nose and focus intently on it. Like my hand before it, the flower, and especially its outline, appear crystal clear (I can even make out small yellow clusters within the flower's petals), so clear as to appear sharp. As before, the green of the grass around the flower blurs out into a mess of green paint splatters. I stand up and notice that right next to where I awoke in this field is a litter of machine-like parts, covered in moss and overgrown grass. In an attempt to wield god-like powers about which I have read in connection with lucid states of dreaming, I attempt to move on of the machine pieces with my mind. I focused on the single piece of non-descript machinery and imagine it levitating slightly and moving to my right, but nothing happens. Frustrated, I hold my right hand out at the piece of machinery and concentrate harder, pretending to grasp the part with my outstretched hand. I push my hand to the right in an attempt to move the part, but nothing at all happens. I become incredibly frustrated. I can hear a loud rumbling that then begins to sound like harsh breathing, then snoring. I looked about the field and said aloud "<PERSON> is snoring" (<PERSON> is my dog who sleeps next to me on my bed). My eyes opened and I was in my bed with my dog lying beside me, snoring, just as I had heard it, what seemed like only a moment before and in another place. I perform my normal reality check and confirm that I am now awake and no longer dreaming.
