An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Essonne, France

On August 23 and 25, 1980, at around 3:30 in the morning, a witness observed from his home, on the 4th floor, a very bright luminous point positioned at the same spot in the sky. The witness described this point as a motionless star that appeared to have appeared in the East. On August 25, the observation continued for about 2 hours with binoculars before the phenomenon disappeared by gradually decreasing in luminous intensity. No other testimony was collected by the gendarmerie. This observation case (under the name BOUSSY-SAINT-ANTOINE (91) 23.08.1980), is part of cases classified as "C" by GEPAN, although the hypothesis of an observation of the planet Venus was judged probable at the time. This case was recently re-examined (see the document Investigation Notes). This case has little substance (single witness), the description of the observed UAP is fairly precise. The sincerity and credibility of the witness have never been questioned. The described phenomenon presents many common characteristics (observation duration, shape, size, color) with a perfectly known astronomical object: the planet Venus, particularly visible at the time of observation (magnitude of -4.26). Moreover, Venus was indeed present in the area of the sky observed (the hypothesis of a mistake with Venus had been raised by GEPAN). It is not the visual perception of the witness that is in question, but the interpretation that the witness makes of his observation through his feelings (fatigue, nighttime observation). In the current GEIPAN classification, this case of low strangeness is classified as "A", observation linked to a mistake with Venus.
