An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Alpes-Maritimes, France

On July 30, 2017 at around 5:30 PM in LE CANNET (06), four people observe, with the naked eye and then with binoculars, the rapid movements of four very bright points in the clear sky. Numerous photos are taken of these objects, which greatly intrigue the witnesses. The observation lasts about 13 minutes before some objects suddenly disappear or others are lost from view, hidden by trees. Only one testimony will be collected. All the objective data collected is consistent with the hypothesis of festive balloons carried by the wind (see the investigation report). The photos help clarify the chronology of the observation. The factors of strangeness experienced by the witnesses can be explained by: - the brightness of the UAP: by the Mylar-type surface condition, which reflects the sun well; - the sudden disappearance: due to the surface condition (mirror-type), it is enough for the sun's exposure to decrease (passage of clouds to the West that momentarily hide the sun) for the balloon to become less luminous and indistinguishable, given moreover the strong brightness of the sky background (dazzling reported by the witnesses) behind the balloon; - the high apparent speed: the photos taken allow estimating the real speed within the framework of our hypothesis and are within the range of the wind gust speed at that moment. T1 considered (and did not see) that UAP 1 had moved over a great distance, but forgetting that these could be two different UAPs (these balloons are often launched in multiples), because there was no continuous observation. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as A: observation of Mylar balloons.
