An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Finistre, France

On April 3, 2016 at 10:10 PM, a witness, standing on their doorstep, is intrigued by a highly luminous phenomenon seen to the right of the church steeple of their village. The phenomenon emits colored lights (blue then red). No noise is heard. The phenomenon is eventually lost from sight at 10:45 PM. The witness takes two photographs. Only one testimony is collected. The witness saw Sirius. At low elevation and under certain atmospheric conditions, Sirius's glows can vary in color and be deceptive. The geometric reconstruction from the witness's photo and the estimated location of the shot indeed allows finding, to within 1 or 2 degrees, a coincidence between Sirius and the unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP). Furthermore, the UAP's trajectory (direction and speed) as described by the witness is fully consistent with that of Sirius. The alternative possibility of a lantern, which could very well have been launched on a Sunday evening, is to be ruled out. Indeed, that would have meant that the witness did not see Sirius and that the latter was hidden by a cloud, whereas the testimony indicates clear skies. The wind that day (infoclimat) is compatible with the direction of movement but with an intensity (10 km/h) giving an angular speed of movement at 200 m altitude and at 600 m distance (calculated from the elevation) much greater and out of all proportion with the observation (even if the wind were 10 times less intense than what the weather station a few kilometers away gives). Consequently, GEIPAN classifies this observation as A: Sirius.
