An account in Ain, France

Recent testimony (08/02/2015) of an old observation. On 24 December 2014 at 8:30 PM, a witness observes the slow and silent passage of at least 5 orange glowing orbs. The observation of orange orbs crossing the sky in a few minutes, on a festive night, clearly suggests sky lanterns, probably released nearby for Christmas. The movement is observed toward the southeast, while a sustained southwest wind is recorded in Geneva (see weather). In mountainous areas, it is very difficult to model wind at low altitude. The observed movement toward the southeast of wind-borne objects is not incompatible with a southwest wind recorded at ground level in Geneva. Furthermore, the witness says he is observing due south facing Mont Blanc, while Mont Blanc is to the southeast (Az 126°). An uncertainty of around 45° is likely. GEIPAN classifies this case "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns.
