An account in Paris, France

On the evening of May 7, 2013, witnesses observed the passage of numerous luminous points in the sky, flying in pairs. The objects were red/orange in color, with no trail. The observation reports 6 to 8 luminous points moving on either side of the Montparnasse Tower in an approximate direction from Southwest to Northeast (see map). The weather at Paris Montsouris (located very close to the witnesses) indicates, according to Meteociel, a slight wind from the Southwest at 7 PM and 10 PM, but from the NE and SE at 8 PM and 9 PM. The weather at Orly is more stable, and does not vary from the Southwest during this period. The witnesses do not give a precise time of observation, other than "apero-dinner." With the hypothesis of a Southwest wind, the luminous objects were moving with the wind; their appearance and movement is fully compatible with sky lanterns. The release of sky lanterns is common on festive evenings, even in the city, although strongly discouraged in urban environments. GEIPAN classifies this case "B" as probable observation of sky lanterns.
