An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Nord, France

On March 31, 2012 at around 9:15 PM, a witness observed in the sky toward the northwest the silent passage from north to south of several orange, non-blinking points of light. A second witness observed part of the phenomenon (but did not testify). The observation ended with the gradual extinguishing of the points of light. This observation has all the characteristics of a passage of Thai lanterns: the movement is consistent with the relatively strong northeast wind (17 to 39 km/h), the orange color, the duration of the observation, and the number of objects. Saturday is the day for evening parties, and therefore the day when lantern releases are frequent. GEIPAN did not conduct research to determine who released these flying lanterns. This case is classified "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns.
